With just 2 weeks to go, it’s the perfect time to start getting prepared for the arrival of your Christmas guests. Follow our experts top tips on how transform your home for the festive season without breaking the bank.

Clear the clutter

Spare rooms can often be a dumping ground for everything we don’t need from day to day. Having a good sort out and decluttering will provide a clean welcoming environment and ensure you  have enough space for your guests this Christmas. Vacuum packing summer clothes, coats or extra bedding will help to achieve this. Vacuum pack bags are also inexpensive and easy to use. These can then be stored out of sight under the bed or on top of the wardrobe. Now could also be a good time to get rid of any unwanted items and to tidy away any clutter. If you’re struggling to find a place for all your bits and bobs, you can use ornamental storage. Decorative baskets, jars and tins can be used create a real statement. We love this idea! This beautiful laddered shelving unit with storage baskets not only adds texture to your guest room but creates a warm and cosy feel too.

 Your guest essentials

To ensure your guests feel as comfortable as possible, make sure they have everything they need to hand. Rolled or neatly folded on the bed, it’s always best to make sure your guests have plenty of towels during their stay. If you don’t have a matching set, using more than one colour can help to tie in with the colour scheme of the room. Also to avoid any embarrassment, make sure that you have plenty of toilet roll where your guests can easily find them.

A little extra something

For an extra special touch, you can create a welcome basket for guests, containing any essentials they may have forgotten. Ear plugs and an eye mask are lovely little gift for your guests in case they find it difficult to sleep in a different environment. You could also add some books or magazine’s by the side of the bed to help ensure they fall asleep with ease.

We suggest you include cotton wool, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, hand cream, body lotion, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste and any other of your favorite toiletry treats into your guests basket.

Festive Feel

If you’re wanting to give your spare room a bit of a face lift, without spending a fortune, there are a few accessories you can add to give it a transformation. Try adding a contrasting rug to create a cozy feel during this cold season. Or perhaps try adding some extra cushions and a blanket to the bed, to create a focal point to the room. To add a bit of festivity, why not try this alternative Christmas tree. Collect fallen branches and decorate with any extra baubles or alternatively add fairy lights.
